OH loves all things Japan, Japanese cinema, anime etc and would love to go there one day. He also enjoys reading but generally sticks to fantasy and occasionally sci fi.

His birthday is coming up and I am quite stuck for ideas for surprise presents for him so I wondered about getting him a book with a Japanese theme.

I think I am looking for something shortish (He faints at his TBR as it is - all 8 books of it :mrgreen:) and was thinking of maybe a Haruki Murakami. I spied South of the Border West of the Sun on Gyre’s reading blog but wasn’t sure if as a love story it would be blokey enough.
I would probably want to avoid any Manga type graphic novels as I wouldn’t have a clue what he’s read and not read.

Any ideas??
